Hi writers.

Are/were you on TikTok? Even if you’ve opted out of consuming dance videos, cooking inspiration, and book recommendations on the social media platform, it’s been hard to avoid the buzz leading up to this past weekend’s US ban and the continued uncertainty over the future of the app. Here are some varying thoughts, advice, and predictions about the impact of the ban on authors from USA Today, Book Promotion.com, and Kathleen Schmidt from the Substack newsletter Publishing Confidential.

Even if the app weathers the current controversy, it’s nonetheless useful to think about what happens when a social media platform fails or simply dips in popularity, and the ways in which it can impact us as writers.

Now, here’s what’s happening in the small press world this week.
